Luminous crimson colour, intense floral nose with layers of cassis; the palate shows a wonderfully toned muscle structure, a density, but not a hint of heaviness, simply the ripeness of blue damsons or blackberries and notes of espresso beans with a delicious savouriness that demands another sip. Tannins are super-silky. There is real power here, but also control (like a Ferrari on the starting line). Another reason to see why San Leonardo makes some of Italy’s greatest Bordeaux blends. There is also a special edition of the 2021, with a label by Chiara Camoni, who represents Italy at the Venice Biennale. A wine which can last the course but also gives huge pleasure now.
