Château Haut-Bailly 2008

This was my surprise of the year, not because it was Haut-Bailly, as it is an estate I love, but that it was 2008, a largely forgotten vintage.  From a magnum, this is classic Haut-Bailly, understated elegance and purity. Beautiful pure blackberry fruit, with notes of red fruit giving a delicious freshness to the wine, pencil shavings, fresh herbs, smoke, very complex. There is depth here and a carousel of flavours which linger on the palate. Stunning.
