Château Clerc Milon 2016

One of my favourite Bordeaux châteaux and one of my favourite Bordeaux vintages. Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy, since 2020 the Estate Director of Château Mouton Rothschild, made the 2016 Clerc Milon. Often in the shadows of the glorious Mouton, this fifth growth totally outperforms its 5th growth status. The 2016 is glorious. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34.5% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, 1.5% Carmenere, 1% Petit Verdot. Classic Pauillac aromas lift out of the glass. There are so many layers here holding your attention, and at 10 years old it is opening up but still with everything to give. Restrained power and depth, layer upon layer of pure fully ripe fruit, blackberries, mulberries, notes of lead. Silky tannins, and delicious saline finish leaving you wanting another glass. Outstanding.
