Biond-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1988 “La Storica”

1988 was an exceptional vintage and Franco Biondi Santi certainly produced one of the great wines of the vintage. Produced from Biondi-Santi’s proprietary clone of Sangiovese Grosso (BBS11) the grapes are from vines with over 25 years of age. This wine is from “La Storica” Biondi-Santi’s own bottle library at Tenuta Greppo. Crushed old roses rise from the glass; the wine shows remarkable freshness, layers of juicy red fruit, tobacco, leather, white pepper, and notes of flint. Silky fine tannins holding everything in suspension. Wonderful savoury finish. The glory of Sangiovese at its height.
