How serious can Rosé be? Well, Whispering Angel has proved that it can break out of the BBQ and summer category with price points that most wine producers dream of, but for those of us who still want more? I enjoy Rosé all year round, but I’d rarely pay as much for it as I would a white wine of quality. Until now. I have been an admirer of Elisabetta Geppetti of Fattoria Le Pupille for quite a while, so was intrigued to try her Rosé, Fattoria Le Pupille RosaMati 2021, made from 100% Syrah from a 2.5-hectare plot in Magliano in Tuscany, This is a gourmet Rosé, a serious fine wine with finesse, texture and tension. Pale salmon in colour, wild strawberries on the nose, on the palate you are struck by the creamy texture of the wine its firm core of wild raspberries and herbs. There is purity here, and a delicious salinity which intrigues and delights. Controlled power, lyricism, movement make it a seductive Rosé which demands more than being sipped by a pool. 14%
