Churton Sauvignon Blanc Best End 2019

This is a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to convert even the most ardent anti-New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc naysayers. Produced from a 1.26-hectare block at 186 metres above sea level, this wine exudes sheer class. Organically farmed, the wine has intriguing hints of caraway seed on the nose, while the palate is very textured, with a great depth of pure green fruit; precision and balance persist through the palate. Not a gooseberry in sight! This is a wine for people who love tension and precision – a tightrope-walker of a wine, a wine whose flavour transcends its grape, and expresses its terroir. In a blind tasting, I would have mistaken it for a top-class Pessac-Léognan. Absolute proof of the virtue of putting prejudice aside.
