▴ Fonterutoli “Concerto” 2021

Marchesi Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli “Concerto” 2021

The aristocratic Mazzei family have been making wine in Tuscany since 1435, and in 1981 they launched “Concerto”, one of the first Supertuscans, 80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet. The vineyard is on rocky limestone soil.  Concerto has always been one of my favourite wines from the Mazzei family, there is a consistency of elegance and Tuscan power which never disappoints. The 2021 is a terrific vintage in Tuscany and this Concerto excels, with a concentration of juicy ripe blackberries, morello cherries, and blueberries. There is depth and power here, but also elegance. Complex, savoury, with so many different flavours coming in, just like instruments in a symphony orchestra. A delicious saline finish. Ridiculous value compared to other Supertuscans—it’s around £50 a bottle.
